UPDATE July 2020

Although restrictions are loosening, we will not be able to resume any performances, screenings and activities at the Kirkgate Centre until September at the earliest. Our ambition is to get things going as soon as possible after that.

The community venues served by Arts Out West will be making their own decisions about what they can safely offer - but as things stand, live performances are not possible..

We're delighted to have received a grant from ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND Emergency Response Fund. This enables us to offer some activity to keep you entertained and engaged while our venues continue to be closed. To start with, we've created an online version of the Wordworth 250 Exhibition which our Heritage Group had prepared before lockdown.

More news coming shortly.

We're putting a call out to Cumbria-based performers - we'd love to hear from you if you feel you could offer online performances to our audiences. Please click here for more details.

We're also looking for a professional writer and a visual artist to lead on a couple of participatory projects. Look here for more information.

All best wishes from all at Kirkgate Arts.

Hello – welcome to Kirkgate Arts. We run Arts Out West, bringing shows to village halls and other community venues across West Cumbria; and the Kirkgate, the warm and welcoming arts centre and community space in Cockermouth.

We also host the Cockermouth Heritage Group, which discovers and explains the history of the area, with a great collection of objects and documents.

Our Youth Theatre has kept going online during the Covid-19 crisis, with the Young Actors joining a project created by London-based group Company Three, building a video record of their current experience. You can see the full collection on our YouTube channel. Here's the latest installment. Watch out for more soon...
