Blog An inside look at NT Live's Angels in America NT Live's Angels in America Picture previews of the production, how to scoop tickets and an exclusive look behind the scenes. Written by Dani Boniface The theatrical event of 2017 is here. Twenty-five years after it was first staged in the British capital, Tony Kushner’s multi-award winning, epic two-part play returns (and was an immediate sell-out). America in the mid-1980s. In the midst of the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell. But this is no historical curiosity: “Instead of appearing dated, it seems pointedly topical in its scrutiny of intolerance, immigration, religious values and national ideals." Evening Standard This new staging is directed by Olivier and Tony award winning director Marianne Elliott (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and War Horse). Say no more. Denise Gough and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett in Angels in America - Millennium Approaches (c) Helen Maybanks On to the cast and quite simply, it's brimming with talent. It stars Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge, The Amazing Spider-Man, Silence) as Prior Walter, along with the likes of Denise Gough (People, Places and Things), Nathan Lane (The Producers), James McArdle (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Russell Tovey (The History Boys, Him and Her, The Pass). You really couldn't hope for much better than that.
