Cockermouth Amateur Dramatics Society present The Way Of The World

CADS' next exciting production is a classic comedy, The Way of the World, by William Congreve. Taking place during the course of just one day it is a helter-skelter tale of love and money.

Exasperated and enchanted in equal measure by the delightful, but capricious young woman he has set his heart upon, Mirabell tries desperately to get his girl and her inheritance.

Will she be persuaded? Will his rival for the money be foiled? Will he overcome the disapproval of her aunt? Who really is Sir Rowland? What do you do with two fops and a country relation blind drunk in your drawing room when courtships and proposals await? And does being 55 mean you're past it?

Plot follows plot and counter-plot in a breathless and comic series of events till all questions are answered.

Set in the 18th century, the production will feature lavish period costume and a cavalcade of colourful characters.

Congreve was one of the foremost writers of Restoration Comedy and this is his finest play.

"For wit and elegance his writing was not matched until the advent of Oscar Wilde".
