The Military Impact & The Home Front in Cumbria during WW1

Stuart Eastwood - Curator, Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life 

The talk will look at the impact on Cumbria of WW1 - the military aspect, the Border Regiment and other local units, recruiting, manpower, training etc.

It will also look at the wider impact of what became a national war effort: war production by local firms, munitions (including Gretna), agriculture, transport and public support. The final part will summarise the overall impact, casualties, the war dead and remembrance.
