Blog In the Spotlight: GROWTH from Paines Plough In the Spotlight: GROWTH from Paines Plough Theatre Company From the Fringe to the Hills - Let's take a look at award-winning theatre show GROWTH Written by Dani Boniface It's not every day that a theatre show quite like this comes to town. Contemporary, moving and laugh-out-loud funny... if GROWTH isn't on your radar yet then it's time we put things right. About the show - from Paines Plough “It’s a lump in a bag of lumps. It’s fine.” Tobes is young, free and having a ball. Off. He’s successfully ignored his lump for two years but it’s starting to get in the way - cramping his style and, worse, affecting his sex life. So now there are pants to be dropped, and decisions to be made… It’s a real ball ache. A comedy about growing up and manning up from critically acclaimed writer Luke Norris (SO HERE WE ARE, Royal Exchange; GOODBYE TO ALL THAT, Royal Court). Winner of a prestigious Fringe First Award at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, GROWTH embarks on its second national tour this year. What the critics say The team here at Kirkgate Arts are excited for GROWTH because it's so much more than a theatre show, and so much more than a comedy. And the reviews speak volumes: “Achingly funny and tender... Of the hundreds of shows at the Fringe, few feel as necessary as this.” ★★★★★ Financial Times “Genuinely hilarious from start to finish... consistently witty, packed with vivid characters and hook-filled dialogue.” ★★★★ The Stage “Genuinely laugh-out-loud funny... heart-stoppingly human.”★★★★ The Scotsman Image source: Paines Plough It's on point, a show for our time and shares a crucial message: Daisy Bowie-Sell for What's On Stage said it perfectly in last year's article: "At Growth's heart is a simple message. Simple, but vitally important: go and get checked, before it is too late, because it might just be nothing. And that's a message that more and more people need to hear." About the Writer: Luke Norris Luke Norris is an award-winning writer and actor who has written for the Royal Exchange, the Royal Court and features in BBC TV's Poldark.
