Calling All Songwriters!
Kirkgate Arts is looking for Songwriters to experience our brand new workshop week.
Led by award winning songwriter, Charlie Dore.
We are inviting exceptional songwriters to attend a week of intensive tuition and development at The Kirkgate Centre, in Cockermouth. You will experience a variety of skills workshops to help you hone your craft, meet other like-minded songwriters and get the opportunity to write and record demos.
The week commences Monday 25 February and finishes with a final evening public performance in the Kirkgate Theatre on Friday 1 March 2019.
ASCAP award winning songwriter, Charlie Dore, will lead the week. Charlie Dore is one of the UK’s most respected songwriters. Her songs have won two Ascap awards, an Ivor Novello nomination, both the Overall Grand and the Folk Prize from the International Acoustic Music Awards and Album of the Year from the US Indie Acoustic Project.
While her own albums favour her more eclectic/roots leanings, she is one of a handful of UK writers to achieve success across many genres, defined by the range of artists to have recorded her songs, including Tina Turner, George Harrison, Celine Dion, Ricky Ross and Jimmy Nail, notching up along the way a UK No 1, a US No 4 and Top 10 hits across Europe. She has also composed for three BBC drama series and two films. Her own hit, Pilot of the Airwaves is still a worldwide radio favourite.
Charlie released her 9th album, the double award winning Dark Matter in 2017 and is touring the UK throughout 2019 with long-time collaborator Julian Littman, of Steeleye Span, and virtuoso double bass player Gareth Huw Davies. She still enjoys writing for and with other artists and also mentors many emerging songwriters when she’s not touring.
“an amazingly astute, moving, intelligent and connected songwriter…a voice like Kate McGarrigle meets Dory Previn. Wonderful”. Mike Harding
“A gift for melody, brave, poignant, entertaining, original” Guardian ★★★★
‘A songwriter of exceptional talent…what singles Dore out from the rest is her lyrics. One of the UK’s most original talents.’ Rock&Reel
