Mike Turnbull & the Safe Kings

then available via our KIRKGATE ARTS YOUTUBE CHANNEL

Mike Turnbull is a multi-instrumentalist who has the knack for writing well-crafted songs with a story to tell. Influences are taken from his home region of the Lakes, from around the UK & beyond. Together with Suzanne Ambrose on double bass and David Pennington on cajon, they are Mike Turnbull & The Safe Kings – their sound and style is original modern folk ranging from melodic ballads to energetic foot stompers! The songs bring stories, legends and observations from around the UK. Upbeat with drive – and a touch of Americana.

“Mike Turnbull is a singer-songwriter from the Lake District whose main instruments are tenor guitar, banjo, mandolin & octave mandola. Their sound coupled with the sources of his songs suggests Seth Lakeman and, in truth, that isn’t a bad comparison. He certainly has the same drive and energy.”
