Travelling by Tuba

Chris Cranham (Tuba) and Stewart Death (Piano) are a unique duo who perform stunning innovative shows, definitely not just a tuba recital!

With an innumerable array of Wind and Brass instruments they undertook over 200 performances last year. Their success is not only due to their virtuosic performance but also their ability as irrepressible entertainers.

Containing their favourite music and instruments from all over the world, this new show is a real multi-instrumental extravaganza.

The first half features the gladiatorial Roman Cornu, a Swiss Alpine horn – the original mobile phone – all transported to your hall. Admire the craftsmanship of the beautiful Chinese Dragon- Headed Trumpet and a pair of 6-foot high Tibetan Dungs. Contrast these with the mellow sounding ocarina and the blaring African Kudus. Marvel at the Cimbasso, Verdi’s tuba with the bell going forward. An amazing variety of sights and sounds! The instruments are all linked together with well-known Classics on the tuba, dispelling the idea of the proverbial oompah!

During the interval the audience are invited to come and have a go, see the instruments up close and surprise themselves at the sounds they can make!

The second half is in a Cabaret style: highly entertaining Jazz, well know tunes, piano solos, Flanders and Swan and, impossible as it sounds, watch out for the opera Carmen in four and a half minutes – all will be revealed!!  Humorous anecdotes from their years on the road also combine to give an unforgettable performance with something for everyone (suitable for 7 to 107!)

‘Not enough stars on the feedback form, wonderful, so entertaining and unusual, we did not know what to expect, great variety of music’         Kegworth Village Hall, Live and Local

‘Travelling by Tuba are experts who really get their enjoyment of music across’   Times

‘..what a brilliant night….such a lovely variety of music….what talented musicians’ Bouverie Hall, Pewsey,  Rural Arts Wiltshire
